Client Confidentiality
This scenario-based e-Learning training helps meet state-required training hours for volunteers, employees, and board members. By completing this module, the learner is immersed in real-life situations they might encounter at the office. Additionally, the course is designed to decrease the number of unintentional confidentiality breaches to zero (with the exception of medical or police-related emergencies).
Audience: Prospective members of any level
Responsibilities: Research, Instructional Design, Design Document, Scripting, Storyboard, e-Learning Development, Visual Design, Company Branding
Tools: Articulate Storyline, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, WellSaid Labs
problem
The client needed new employees, volunteers, and board members to complete a number of state-required training hours regarding safety and confidentiality.
solution
I recommended to the client that the employees, volunteers, and board members should receive an asynchronous e-Learning module due to the organization’s small numbers and limited resources.
Process
After a needs analysis with client stakeholders, I designed this course with scenario-based learning, interactive knowledge checks, a mnemonic device, and utilization of the new company branding. I started with the design document and followed with the storyboard to create the visual mockup, and the associated narration script. The course was developed in Articulate Storyline 360, and includes a certificate upon successful completion. It was important that learners experience what it is like to work with an actual sexual assault or domestic abuse survivor and how to keep that person’s information safe and confidential. This put the learner in the center of the learning experience by providing characters, realistic events, and the autonomy to make decisions.
Branding Guidelines
I created this branding guide in a previous project for the client. Click below for details on that collaboration.
Design doc
I wrote the e-Learning course design document to highlight the major components with the client. Having everything written out before course development allowed me to ensure all learning objectives and content were correct and in alignment with the client’s goals.
storyboard
This 41 page storyboard goes into explicit detail regarding the components of the entire course. Narration, graphics, and interactions are all written out or described. There are several layers for many of the slides and those are also identified and explained, making development of the course straightforward.
I wrote out a script separately from the storyboard in order to make it easier on both the SMEs and in the development process. Reading through the script from top to bottom allowed me to see if there were any discrepancies between what I wanted the learner to hear and how I wanted them to navigate through the course.
Script
mentor guide
I incorporated a mentor character and a client to help guide learner scenarios and decision making. These characters aid the learner in introducing new terms, reviewing information, and then assessing the learning objectives.
course samples
Once the learner has completed the course and earned an 80% or better on the final assessment, they are able to print their certificate and exit the course.

result
The fully developed product was well-received by the client. The visually pleasing design, utilization of the new company branding, and the engagement of the interactions was praised.
